how do i sight in a rangefinder rifle scope?
i have a NC Star ILLUMINATED A.O. RIFLE SCOPES 6-24X50AOE RANGEFINDER, but i cant get the rangefinder lines to measure out.
I have many rangefinding and BDC scopes.
First – you sight in your rifle at 200 yards – then loosen and remove the dial on the top WITHOUT MOVING THE SETTING – and then set the dial back down on the 200 yard setting. Tighten it down.
You need the 200 yard dial setting to be very accurate because in a pinch doing a quick shot – you will only be 3″ high at 100 yards and 3″ low at 300 yards for most all hunting calibers.
After you have 200 set – move the dial to 100 and note how much + or – it takes to shoot at zero. Do the same for 300, 400 and 500 yards. On the stock of your rilfe apply masking tape, and mark it. It should look like this when finished.
100 – +2
200 – 0
300 – 0
400- +2
500- +4
The actual range finding fuction of these scopes with a second cross hair is pretty useless – if you can see the deer – it can see you! By the time you set the top cross hair on the breast of the deer, the bottom at the brisket, then read the setting and then dial the scope……… you are better of taking a good guess at distance and setting the dial – then fire. Even if you totally blow the distance by 100 yards – the worse you will be is a little high if it is closer, and, a little low if it is farther. More than enough to strike the kill zones.
